kokofocus — Point and draw on your screen

Requires macOS 26 or later

The whole app in one line: hold Control, press and hold the mouse button, flick toward the tool you want, and let go.

Getting started

kokofocus lives in your menu bar — there is no window and no Dock icon. Click the ring icon and choose Turn On kokofocus. The icon fills in when it is on.

Open the tool ring. Hold Control, then press and hold the mouse button. A ring appears at your cursor.

Choose a tool. Flick toward it and release. Release in the middle to cancel and change nothing.

Turn it on or off. Double-tap Control, or use the menu bar.

Get out of anything. Press Esc. Your screen goes back to normal immediately.

The ring has six tools on the outside — Pointer, Laser, Arrow, Line, Rectangle and Ellipse — and three actions on the inside: Undo, Redo and Clear. Actions fire and leave your tool alone. Clearing can be undone, so the trash is safe to use.

Sharing your screen

Share your whole display and your annotations appear automatically to everyone on the call. Nothing to configure.

Sharing a single application window will not show them. This is a limitation of macOS rather than of kokofocus: when a meeting app shares one window, macOS sends only that window’s own contents, so no annotation drawn by any app can appear inside it. Share your entire screen instead.

Your audience never sees the tool ring itself — it is excluded from screen capture, so what people watch is your content with your annotations on it, and none of the machinery in between.

Common questions

I selected Rectangle and now I cannot click anything

That is expected while a drawing tool is selected: kokofocus takes the mouse so it can see your drag. Switch back to Pointer from the tool ring, or press Esc to turn kokofocus off entirely. The menu bar always stays clickable, so you can also reach the menu and choose Pointer from there.

Control-click stopped working

While you hold the summoning key, clicks go to kokofocus rather than the app underneath — so that key’s own click gesture is unavailable, and Control-click is secondary click. If you rely on it, choose a different key in Settings → General → Hold to open the menu. Fn has no click gesture of its own and avoids the conflict entirely.

Double-tapping Control does nothing, or does it by accident

Two quick taps of Control, with nothing else held, toggle kokofocus. Each tap must be brief and the pair close together. If another app uses the same gesture, turn it off in Settings → General.

Nothing happens when I drag

Check that kokofocus is on — the menu bar icon is filled when it is — and that a drawing tool is selected rather than Pointer or Laser. Those two deliberately pass every click through to the app underneath.

Can I make my shapes disappear on their own?

Yes. Settings → Tools → Fade shapes automatically, with a duration from 2 to 30 seconds. Shapes that fade this way do not use an undo step.

The tool ring does not show up in my screenshots

That is deliberate — it is excluded from every screenshot, recording and screen share so your audience only sees the result. To capture it for a tutorial, turn on Settings → Tools → Show kokofocus’s controls in screen captures, then turn it off again afterwards. Note that it applies to live screen sharing too, so people on a call will see it as well.

Does it need any permissions?

No. kokofocus asks for nothing — no Accessibility, no Screen Recording, no sign-in — and it makes no network connections. See the privacy policy.

Resetting kokofocus

Your preferences live in the app’s own sandbox container and are removed when you delete the app. To reset them without uninstalling, quit kokofocus and delete:

~/Library/Containers/com.shutas.kokofocus
